Religious Entitlement
The religious symbol that makes you feel comforted or safe can make someone else feel unsafe. To be clear: this video is not an invitation to debate religion. I will absolutely not be discussing or debating anyone’s religious beliefs in the comments.
Religion is being used here as an example of a broader issue: entitlement, imposing your beliefs onto shared/public spaces, and expecting your personal meaning to override someone else’s experience.
The point is the behavior and the unequal standard, not whether anyone’s particular religion or belief system is “right.” If carving “Jesus” into a public bench counts as devotion, then carving “Satan” into that same bench has to count as devotion too, because it’s the same behavior and the same disregard for public property. Calling one sacred and the other vandalism is entitlement, the assumption that your god/belief system gets special treatment others don’t.
